Rabbi Cheryl Jacobs - Rabbi/Educator

Rabbi Cheryl Jacobs

Rabbi Jacobs is in her fourth year at Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El, but is no stranger to our community.  Before coming to TKAE, Rabbi Jacobs served at  Jewish Family Service of Broward County as the Director of the Jewish Healing Center.  That position enabled her to reach out to many segments of the Jewish community, responsible for the pastoral services in our county’s hospitals, nursing homes, shelters and prisons.  Her children are students at our Day School and Rabbi Jacobs is the spouse to Rabbi Andrew Jacobs, Rabbi of Ramat Shalom.

Graduating from William Smith College in Geneva, New York with a B.A. in Religious Studies, she went on to earn a Master of Arts in Religion from Yale University Divinity School.  Her next degree step was at the Jewish Theological Seminary, the seminary of Conservative Judaism  in New York City, where she received her Master of Arts in Jewish Studies and Rabbinic ordination.

In addition to a wide background providing Pastoral care, Rabbi Jacobs has extensive experience developing curriculum in both her student days and these past years in a variety of settings.   As Rabbi/Educator,  she works closely and collaboratively with the Elementary Division of our Day School, leading and enhancing the aspects of our Jewish heritage through the integrated curricular programs of the school. She also works with our Religious School, helping to implement some new and exciting ideas in that setting.   Further, she works with the Early Childhood Program, as together there will be developed age-appropriate lessons for our youngest children.

Rabbi Jacobs was the first woman to be elected President of the Broward County Board of Rabbis.  She volunteers as a Chaplain for the Broward County Sheriffs Office and the National Police Defense Foundation.
